Last summer, I backpacked Europe extensively for a month as a solo female traveler. In fact, I created this travel blog as a platform to share my experience and hopefully inspire other people to embark on their own solo travel. Backpacking Europe alone for a month taught me A LOT of invaluable skills such as budgeting, problem solving, and learning how to be content while solo.
Maybe it was accidental. You get to the hostel and oooooops: the receptionist tells you that you are staying in a 6 person mixed-dorm hostel. OR maybe you really wanted to stay in a specific hostel and the only option was to stay in a mixed-dorm hostel. OR it was just cheaper. I have stayed in quite a few mixed-dorm rooms and I have some tips that helped me feel more comfortable that you can try out!
I often get questions about my race and nationality from Americans as well as foreigners. Being a biracial American leaves a lot of people in a fumble. “You are Latina, but you don’t act like it. You are white, but you don’t really look like it.” Americans commonly tell me this- but from foreigners I receive a different response.— “you don’t look American”.
